The last time I say my father was when I was thirteen years old. He ‘showed up’ for one day, promised to buy me a drum-kit and then disappeared for ever.
I never knew my dad.
From that day forward I promised myself I would not become the same lousy person/parent my father had become.
I don’t think I have. God knows I’ve tried to be different than him.
Fast forward to Saturday 06-16-07:
I picked up my daughter, Shelby, last night after work and we had some delicious cajun food for supper. Then we decided to rent movies for the evening. We decided to just hang-out and just be loose. We rented two movies, ‘Wilderness’ and ‘Click’. ‘Wilderness’ is pretty intense. Lots of blood. And anger. Yet slightly entertaining.
The next movie we tried to watch was ‘Click’ with Adam Sandler. I’m not much of a fan I admit. Although I’ve found his movies to be mildly entertaining, I’ve always thought his work to be sophomoric at best. The DVD we rented apparently had a scratch or something and wouldn’t allow us to view the movie past scene 5. Which was probably a good thing.
We spent Sunday searching for ‘string lights’ for Shel’s practice room. No luck. But it was fun just looking.
Life is good.
All in all, I had another great father’s day… Thanks Shel. I love you.
Dad
UPDATE:
Me and Shel found the lights she was looking for at Spencer’s Gifts. All is well.
